Posted on September 3, 2018 – We first made this Easiest Lamb Gyros with Creamy Yogurt Sauce recipe by Basically from Bon Appetit in July and the kids said it was the best thing I made all summer! Not exactly a huge accomplishment since I don’t cook much then, but but I made them again last week and Dan commented that it was really good as well. DO NOT skip the sauce. It is crazy good. Actually, you might want to make double sauce to use on everything for the rest of the week. It is me, so I did make a few adjustments. I cut down the oil when cooking the lamb and just popped the pitas in the toaster oven. I also used 1 1/2 lbs of lamb since the three of us plowed through it the first time in one sitting. I also served these with sliced cucumbers and red onion. If you are not a lamb fan, you could definitely try this with beef instead. US friends, I highly recommend using the Whole Foods naan bread if you can get it as it was perfect! I’m still trying to find a Hong Kong substitute and not having much luck, but the Habibi pitas work fairly well. Enjoy and have a great week! Note: This is still definitely a family favorite! These gyros are delicious, and they come together very quickly. I have made the pitas as suggested in the recipe and it is worth the effort! I don’t always add the cucumber and red onion I did when I made them the the first time, either. They are honesty perfect made just as the recipe is written – although I do recommend doubling the recipe if you have big eaters in your family!
